CSR ActivitiesSAGICOR JOINS LLOYD'S COMMUNITY PROGRAMMEAs part of our Corporate Social Responsibility Policy, Sagicor have signed up to Lloyd's community programme, helping staff to volunteer for a stronger local community. Right next door to Lloyd's and the square mile is the diverse community of East London. Like many city areas, it has more than its fair share of socio-economic challenges. These range from children who need help with literacy and numeracy, to young teenagers struggling to find work, and run-down areas that need a new lease of life. Sagicor have partnered up with the Globe Primary School London, E2 0JH What's in the programme?Words & NumbersHelping children get to grips with literacy and numeracy Sagicor volunteers have become reading and number partners by spending their lunchtime working with individual children making numbers fun and helping them develop their reading. Lloyd's Mentoring SchemePass on your knowledge and experience to students who need it Sagicor staff have partnered with students from Cambridge Heath Sixth Form College in Tower Hamlets to help them through what is a very challenging time. Staff arrange to meet with their students on a monthly basis to advise them on exam techniques, university choices, the world of work and more. Helping HandsRoll up your sleeves and make a difference Sagicor are planning team building days that benefit the local community by undertaking practical tasks such as giving a community centre a makeover, helping to cook breakfast for 200 homeless people or creating a vegetable garden for our partner school. Sporting ChancesPass on your passion for sport to children Sagicor volunteers have already participated in the Lloyd's Community Programme supporting Tower Hamlets School Sports Partnership (THSSP) annual winter and summer games. THSSP trains young people to run after school sports clubs. They currently have 32 clubs, covering all primary schools in Tower Hamlets, with up to 1,200 children attending the clubs each week. The summer games included over 800 children (8-10 years old) from the clubs with the opportunity to take part in competitive tournaments (including Athletics, Cricket, Football, Tag-Rugby, Badminton and Fencing) and to try out new sports (including Judo, Ultimate Frisbee, Golf and Skateboarding).
