Credit, Bond and Political Risk
Mark joined Sagicor on Tuesday 8th May 2012 as Class Underwriter Political Risk. Mark has over 15 years’ experience in the (re)insurance industry specialising in the Credit, Bond and Political Risk markets.
Mark started his insurance career at AON before moving on to Transatlantic Reinsurance. He later moved to Guy Carpenter where he helped develop a new centre of excellence for the group
Barry manages the IT Department and is responsible for IT and Telecommunications Infrastructure and environment, Systems Development, Applications, Business Intelligence, Data and System Integrity and Security, IT Disaster Recovery and is a member of the Business Continuity Team.
Barry started in the Insurance sector in February 2000 joining Gerling Insurance and in 2007 was responsible for planning and managing the IT De-merge to successfully create the current Sagicor Syndicate Holdings IT environment. Barry was appointed as Head of IT in April 2008.
Barry started his working life as an Electronics and Communications apprentice and on completion of this worked as an Electronics Design Engineer for Plessey Telecommunications, he has been working in IT since 1985 in various industry sectors fulfilling various IT roles.
Neil joined the syndicate from AIG in Jan 2008. He has over 20 years global property experience (including working for Zurich and Gerling).
He joined the syndicate to head up and expandÂ the Property Lines Division and also develop an open market portfolio.
Neil actively underwrites the open market book from Sagicor at Lloyd's box No 239 Gallery 2 the Lloyd's building.
Stewart has over 10 years experience in the insurance industry covering a wide range of underwriting from liability through to contingency insurance classes
He has been running the Contaminated Products Insurance book since July 2011 and is responsible for developing the current book as well as exploring other avenues of growth within Pecuniary Lines.
Sue is Head of HR for Sagicor Europe. Her brief/remit (whichever you prefer) also includes Health and Safety and Facilities Management for the Company/Syndicate.
Sue was part of the team who managed the transition (via an MBO) from Gerling UK Limited to Sagicor in Autumn 2007.
She joined Gerling in 1990 and prior to that had worked in HR in Investment Banking (for 10+ years) and early on in her career Retail.
Liability and Professional Lines
David has over 30 years experience in the insurance industry covering a wide range of Insurance and Reinsurance classes.
David started his insurance career at Sphere Drake before moving on to Scottish Lion. He later moved to Mapfre Re where he started their Branch operation in London. For the past 13 years he has been running the Professional Liability team at Markel International who are one of the largest writers of Professional lines in London.
David joined Sagicor in January 2012 with a view to developing the current Professional lines account.
Marketing and Communications
Paul joined Sagicor, then Gerling, in the summer of 2006, initially reporting to the CEO working on new business opportunities. In September 2007 he took over responsibility for Marketing and Communications and also Operations Manager for Byrne and Stacey Underwriting (BSU), including broker development. Later that year he successfully rebranded Gerling at Lloyd's to Sagicor at Lloyd's and BSU to Sagicor Underwriting Ltd.
Paul is now head of Sagicor Global Risks' Marketing, Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility.
Prior to joining Sagicor, Paul worked in a variety of roles for Marsh, starting his career in 1985 initially working within the fiduciary department and then in broking. In 2001 Paul became a Director for Marsh Global Markets heading their Marketing Communications and eTrading development.
In May 2004 he successfully passed the Professional Certificate In Marketing with distinctions.
Sarah is the financial controller for Sagicor Global Markets which includes Sagicor at Lloyd's and Sagicor Underwriting Ltd and is ACA qualified.
Previously to Sagicor, Sarah worked for Gerling Insurance and in 2007 was responsible for planning and managing the financial transition of the MBO from Gerling to Sagicor.
Neil has been in the Lloyd's Market for over 35 years. He worked for lead PA Syndicate W.R. Massey & Others, Syndicate 431 for 17 years. He then worked as an Underwriter for a Lloyd's coverholder for 3 years, underwriting PA for a number of syndicates including 1206. He joined Syndicate 1206 in 1997 as an underwriter to focus on developing non US business, but also supporting the writing of the US account.
In 2004 he assumed sole responsibility for the account. He has overseen the 1206 PA account during its most profitable phase to the agency and has been responsible for recruiting all of the present members of his team.
Responsible for the syndicate's outward reinsurance placement and claim recoveries, Tony, a former underwriter of 15 years experience for both the company and Lloyd's market.
Tony began his reinsurance career in 1976 and prior to joining Gerling in 1999 [managing agent for 1206] was the marine recoveries manager for Royal Sun Alliance.
Head of Sagicor Life
Martin has worked in various roles within life assurance for over 20 years, settling into life underwriting in 1989. He has worked for both direct and IFA based life insurers and his career has seen him underwrite individual, group and scheme business.
In 1994 he joined Lutine Assurance, which in 2001 was acquired by Cassidy Davis Life syndicate 779, and ran their underwriting and administration departments. In 2006 he became the Deputy Underwriter on Syndicate 779. Martin joined Sagicor as Head of Life at the end of 2008 with a view to develop the life Syndicate acquired by Sagicor at Lloyd's in April 2008.
Head of Sagicor Underwriting Ltd
Adrian has underwritten both Commercial and Personal Lines working for NIG (National Insurance & Guarantee Corporation part of RBS) for 35 years until 2006. During this time he has been responsible for Underwriting, Pricing, Postcode Area (Natural Peril Exposure) Developments, Product Development, Audit and Control and IT development across many commercial and personal lines products.
Since 2001 he held the position of Personal Lines Director responsible for the pricing, underwriting, audit and control and distribution of all related products within that division of the company with a GWP circa £500m.
On leaving NIG Adrian co-founded and was a key figure at iprism a web provider for Commercial Business designed to trade with both intermediary and the direct customer.
Since his departure from iprism Adrian has been involved in some Underwriting projects on a consultancy basis prior to joining Sagicor in March 2008.
E-trading | Sagicor Underwriting Ltd
Ian Josephs is Head of E-Trading at Sagicor Underwriting Ltd (SUL). In his role he has responsibility for the successful development and delivery of E-Traded products, enhancements and solutions. Ian is also responsible for the business development function within SUL, focusing upon broker development and support of key broker accounts.
Ian was previously Head of Distribution at MMA Insurance Company, where he led Electronic Business, Agency and scheme functions. In this role he delivered MMA's distribution strategy with key partners and intermediaries.
Ian joined MMA as Electronic Distribution Manager in August 2007. He has also developed electronically traded products and solutions previously for Fortis and Folgate Insurance. Ian has represented these organisations at a senior level in industry initiatives such as i-market and Electronic Trading forums.
Ian is also a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
PA Travel | Sagicor Underwriting Ltd
Richard is a Senior Underwriter for Sagicor Underwriting in charge of an underwriting team of 5, writing UK Personal Accident, Illness and Travel insurance, principally for the commercial sector through Brokers across the UK.
With 27 years experience in insurance, Richard was previously Underwriting Manager for an independent underwriting agency Byrne and Stacey Underwriting, based in Hertfordshire, which was acquired by Sagicor in 2007 and rebranded as Sagicor Underwriting Limited.
Commercial Combined | Sagicor Underwriting Ltd
Kerry has over 14 years experience in the underwriting of SME business. Kerry commenced her career with Anglo Pacific Consultants before joining Folgate Underwriting Agency Commercial Lines (now Towergate) in 2004. Kerry left Towergate Underwriting Commercial Property in 2011, as Underwriting Team Manager, to join the underwriting team at Sagicor.
Kerry's underwriting experience covers a number of lines of business including Commercial Combined, Package, Property Owners , and General Liability.
Within previous roles she has been responsible for setting underwriting strategy, sales strategy, broker development, team management and senior underwriting.
